Arts Council Accepting Grant Applications

The Arts Council of Brownwood is now accepting Grant Applications for our 2019-20 fiscal year which begins September 1st. Applications must be submitted by August 1st.

The Arts Council provides funds to local non-profit organizations for projects that help to further our purposes of promoting the arts, facilitating fine arts activities, encouraging coordination between organizations, fostering the arts, and creating cultural tourism in Brownwood.

To be eligible for a grant, organizations must be a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in good standing, must have been in existence for at least one calendar year, and must be based within the Brownwood area. Eligible projects must occur within the Brownwood area, must occur between September 1st and August 31st, and they must be open to the public.

2019 Cinco de Mayo Celebration

The Arts Council of Brownwood hosted the 2019 Cinco de Mayo Celebration on Friday, May 3rd from 5:00 – 10:00 p.m. in the streets of downtown Brownwood. Over 4,500 guests attended the event.

The outdoor fiesta included food and craft vendors, an area for dancing, free games, piñatas, activities for children, and several contests for adults. The Brownwood Art Association Spring Show at Cinco was be in The Vault and the Passion for Trucks Show was in parking lot across from Tr3s Leches.

The Homemade Salsa Contest was sponsored by Tr3s Leches Bakery. In the Professional Salsa Contest, the public voted for their favorite salsa, provided by several local restaurants. Several downtown businesses competed in the Window Decorating Contest sponsored by Spa de la Terre, and there was a Jalapeño Eating Contest and a Grito Contest at the end of the evening.

Free performances in the Lyric Theatre featured Mariachi El Romance and México 2000 Ballet Folklórico, presented by the Law Office of Natalia Lopez and Constancio Welding. There was also live performances by A.M.P (art.music.people) in Pat Coursey Park and demonstrations in the streets by the Early Belles, Matachines de Sta. Maria Reina de la Paz, MX Matrix Cheer and Dance, and Solo Fitness Zumba.
