About Us
The Arts Council of Brownwood is organized for the purpose of promoting the arts, facilitating fine arts activities, encouraging coordination between organizations, fostering the arts, and creating cultural tourism in Brownwood.
The Arts Council of Brownwood started as a committee of the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce. In October 1978, the organization was chartered as the Community Cultural Affairs Commission of Brownwood. In November 1998, the organization's name was officially changed to Arts Council of Brownwood. The Arts Council receives most of its funding from the City of Brownwood. We also receive grants from the Texas Commission on the Arts and other organizations.
The Arts Council provides grants to local organizations to help promote the arts in Brownwood. We also fund our own programs. Recently, we have been able to bring Ballet Austin and Storybook Theatre to the students in Brownwood ISD, as well as the community. We are looking forward to bringing the Fort Worth Symphony to Brownwood in January of 2015. We are the primary sponsor of the annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit.
